One of the highlights of the wedding planning process is usually the cake tasting. Almost everyone enjoys sampling a variety of yumminess and selecting the perfect flavor for their perfect day. You should have no trouble getting your future MR. to this appointment or any other member of the wedding party. However, it’s still a big decision making process and too many “cooks in the kitchen” can complicate things.
For instance, do you want buttercream or fondant? Metallic? Ruffles? Real or sugar flowers? Filling? Fruity or Moussey? Traditional? Modern? There are also some things you must remember to ask and look for in your baker, and you will have another contract to sign. This part isn’t as much fun, but is important.
Be sure to know how your baker prices their cakes. Most are usually by the slice, but also depend on flavor, filling and complexity of design. Ask if the top tier is included and how far in advance your cake will be made. Finding out if they are licensed by the state is also a good idea. Your cake contract should include all the details such as flavor, fillings, # of servings, # of tiers, tier shape, icing type, decorations and topper. It should also include your event date/time/location, delivery set up fee, sketch of cake, all bakery info and whether take home boxes for leftovers and a box for top tier preservation are included.
When making your choices, take The Cake Boss, Buddy Valatros’ advice. He says to think beyond sugar flowers and choose ribbons and bows or butterflies and leaves, go with crowd pleasing flavors, get real bakery reviews, discuss your budget up front and be prepared for your design meeting by bringing color swatches, photos and fabric.
We gathered some inspiration for you and hope your STYLED EVENT takes the cake.
